Jojoba

A little known crop, jojoba is used in cosmetics and many household products. The plant requires a very dry environment in which to set its fruit, reach potential and viable yields. It is naturally a desert plant, our subsurface drip irrigation system delivers the prescribed amount of water right at the root zone, offering an extremely efficient overall use of water. It is all about returns per megalitre of water” says Jenny Buster of Wanaaring Road Partnership.

“It was difficult at the outset as there was very little information on the crop, we had a lot of issues to contend with, harvesting methods are one of the issues we are continuing to improve. It was a big risk to commit to the crop, the upfront costs are large before returns are realised, year five of the crop delivers the first commercial yield”
